DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Nilaya was born out of the belief that aesthetics add value to our lives and that it must be warm, down-to-earth and beautiful.
SLOW LIVING
We spend 80% of our time indoors - a large chunk of this being at our homes. Stress being the norm now, our well-being is an indispensable design consideration. At Nilaya, we believe slow-living is key to fostering it. So we put in thought and time into it to ensure a real, emotional connection with the spaces we inhabit.
ENVIRONMENT CONSCIOUS
We are aware of the looming issue of ecological decay. While our well-being is important, it shouldn’t come at a cost to the environment as much as possible. We can choose to be mindful of what goes into making our home and integrate a sustainable lifestyle into the design. Working with local artisans and businesses also helps promote sustainable practices and reduces our carbon footprint .
BLENDING OLD AND NEW
Nilaya believes in reviving relevant traditional knowledge. As times evolve, it is important to take stock of our past, of what we would like to carry on into our future/ Drawing upon the legacy of our ancestors and our own personal memories is important to retain a link to our tangible and intangible past.
Behind the scenes
Hello.
I'm Suja, Interior Designer but an Electronics-Engineer previously. After a brief stint as a Business Analyst at Deloitte, I joined Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology way back in 2009 following a whimsical childhood dream of becoming a designer. I graduated in 2011, having specialized in Furniture and Interior Design. Since then, I have worked with interior designers and architects in Bangalore, Kochi and Pune.
Nilaya is a journey to finding meaning and nurturing the self through one’s work.
The Nilaya logo was designed by Graphic designer Malvika Tewari and Type Designer Lipi Raval.
They do a lot of interesting work which you can check out here.
